Is it tougher the longer you serve?

I served nearly 31 years active duty married with children. We were stationed around the world and I deployed in direct combat a total of 27 months. We lived in Japan, Germany, Korea, Hawaii and many Conus assignments. I guess after three decades and reaching the top enlisted to Command Chief Master Sergeant turned out to be a double edge sword. My standards are higher than most and everything must be organized and on time. I found this work style I have been use to as a rare style. Management and leadership is also way below what I was trained for and experienced. It was kind of like coming off the Daytona 500 track and driving through an active 15 MPH school zone. What are your experiences and how long did you serve?
